Mission & Philosophy

A structured and supportive approach to independent study.

Alphonse Gallegos Academy exists to give independent study families a more personal, supportive, and connected learning experience while preserving the flexibility that drew them to independent study in the first place.

Our program works alongside the independent study program each family has chosen. Students bring their existing coursework to AGA and gain access to teacher guidance, structured work time, small-group support, accountability, enrichment, and a consistent in-person learning community.

We believe students thrive when they are known well, supported consistently, and given the guidance they need to grow in confidence and independence. Learning should feel personal, engaging, and responsive to the needs of each student.

At AGA, academic support, personal growth, family partnership, community, and meaningful learning all work together to help students succeed.

Our Story

Built by families looking for something better.

Alphonse Gallegos Academy was created by families and community members who believed there was an opportunity to build a more personal, sustainable, and student-centered educational model for Sacramento families.

Rather than recreating a traditional school structure, AGA was intentionally designed to support K–8 independent study students through teacher guidance, structure, small-group learning, enrichment, and meaningful family partnership.

Our goal is to preserve the flexibility and family choice of independent study while adding the support, community, and consistent in-person learning environment many students benefit from.

As AGA grows, we hope to build not just a learning environment, but a lasting educational community where students feel supported, challenged, encouraged, and inspired to grow.

Our Namesake
"A life rooted in compassion, humility, and service."
Alphonse Gallegos devoted his life to serving others, especially children, families, and communities often overlooked by society. His example of compassionate leadership and service continues to inspire the values of AGA.
Our Campus

Growing into a larger dedicated space before we open.

Due to stronger-than-expected interest in the learning center, AGA is delaying its opening while we secure and prepare a larger dedicated space in Sacramento.

Location Update
AGA is currently evaluating larger dedicated locations in the Sacramento area. Our new location and opening date will be announced once they are finalized.

The decision to delay our opening gives AGA the opportunity to move into a space that better matches the learning-center model we are building and the level of family interest we are receiving.

We are looking for a dedicated environment with enough room for focused academic work, small-group support, rotating enrichment, hands-on projects, movement, and a strong student community throughout the day.

Rather than opening in a space we may quickly outgrow, we are using this time to establish a location that gives the program more room to serve families and grow thoughtfully.

Families may continue to express interest in the program while the location search is underway. Updated location and opening information will be shared as soon as the new space is finalized.

What We Are Building Toward
A dedicated K–8 learning center with flexible academic spaces, room for enrichment and projects, areas for small-group support, and space for students to learn, create, move, and connect.
